PRIDE CLAW PAST LESLEY, 7-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Regis swept doubles play and won four singles matches en route to a 7-2 victory over Lesley on Thursday night in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis play. The Pride improve to 8-1 (6-1 NECC) with the win, while the Lynx drop to 0-8 (0-6 NECC) on the season.

Rookies Abigail Wehr (Suwanne, Ga.) and Jazz Hicks (Plymouth, Mass.) shutout their opponents in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, and teamed up to top Lesley's lead doubles duo of Emma True (Lee, N.H.) and Molly Phelps (Durham, N.H.) in first doubles by a score of 8-1. Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) bested Phelps in fourth singles (6-1, 6-0) and Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.) beat Aleena Naqvi (Islamabad, Pakistan) in fifth singles (6-3, 6-1). Medeiros and Roche paired up to post an 8-0 win over Hannah Phalen (Seattle, Wash.) and Jillian Clarke (Old Tappan, N.J.) in No. 2 doubles play.

For Lesley, Carissa Iverson (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) earned her first win as a Lynx, outlasting Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) in three sets, while True earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.).

Kolb and Paige Pasley (Dorchester, Mass.) recorded a win at No. 3 doubles by posting an 8-4 decision over Meghann Toomanjian (Nahant, Mass.) and Naqvi.

Lesley returns to play on Sunday against Mitchell, while the Pride will travel to Bay Path on Monday for a 2:00 p.m. match.
