HAWKS HAND PRIDE FIRST SETBACK OF 2012

WESTON, Mass. – Becker College handed the Regis College women's tennis team its first loss of the season as the Hawks defeated the Pride, 6-3, on Monday night in New England Collegiate Conference action. The Pride fall to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the NECC with the setback, while Becker moves to 6-5 and 4-2 in league games.

The Hawks built an early 2-1 lead following doubles play as Becker's Anna Pilip (New Britain, Conn.) and Cameron Murphy (Weymouth, Mass.) defeated Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.) and Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) 8-3 in No. 2 doubles. The Hawks' Shauna Buckley (Danvers, Mass.) and Kerry Saltvick (Bakersfield, Calif.) grabbed the second point of the day with their 8-2 win over Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) and Vanneyra Chum (Lowell, Mass.) in No. 3 doubles.

The Pride's Abigail Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) registered the lone point for Regis in doubles play with their 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles over Nicole Connolly (Scarborough, Maine) and Kathleen Razzaboni (Hooksett, N.H.).

Becker went on to take four of the six singles matches en route to their 6-3 win. Connolly needed a third set to defeat Wehr in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6, while Kathleen Razzaboni defeated Kendall Kolb in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Becker's Cameron Murphy and Kerry Saltvick picked up wins in their No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches to round out play.

Jewel Medeiros and Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.) were victorious in their singles matches for Regis. Medeiros defeated Pilip, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while Mara rebounded from an opening set defeat to win 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 at No. 5 singles over Shauna Buckley.

The Pride look to rebound on Thursday night as Regis takes on Lesley University at 6:30 p.m. in an NECC contest. Becker will try and make it six wins in-a-row on Friday as they host Bay Path at 3:00 p.m. in a league match.
