SUFFOLK RAMS TAKE SEASON OPENER FROM PRIDE

Cambridge, MA - The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team picked up their first win of the 2009 season, defeating Regis College 6-1 in their season opener on Thursday afternoon.

Defending GNAC Rookie of the Year Lauren Cameron (Kingston, Jamaica) picked up right where she left off last fall winning in straights sets 6-0, 6-0 over freshman Caitlin Fitzgerald (Lynn, MA) in the two position for the Rams.

Cameron also partnered with junior Alex Hernandez-Vallant (Newton, MA) in doubles to defeat Fitzgerald and her partner junior Megan McCarthy (Norfolk, MA) 8-1 in the first doubles match.

Sophomore Rebecca Copeland (Bristol, RI) was victorious in the third position for the Rams defeating Regis' Georgia Cowart (Hopkinton, MA) 6-2, 6-2. Newcomer Kelly Conrad (Lanstahl, Germany) won straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 over Alexandria Kuchera (Waltham, MA) in the four position. Both Copeland and Conrad partnered in doubles play for an 8-1 victory over Cowart and Conrad. Senior Thuy Le (Woburn, MA) was also victorious out of the five position for the Rams with 6-3, 6-2 victories over sophomore MJ Barron (Whitinsville, MA).

McCarthy picked up Regis' lone point on the day defeating Hernandez-Vallant, 6-0, 6-2 in the first singles position.

Regis will host Colby-Sawyer on Sunday, while the Rams host Pine Manor next Thursday September 10, at 6:30pm at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols.
