MCCARTHY EARNS FIRST WIN, PRIDE FALL TO SUFFOLK 8-1

Weston, Mass.-In its season opener versus Suffolk the women's tennis team was unable to capture the win. Megan McCarthy (Norfolk, Mass.) earned her first win of season for Regis competing in the number one singles position.

"Megan is dominant on the court," says head coach Didi Weinreb. McCarthy defeated the Ram's Alex Hernandez 6-0, 6-3 Thursday. McCarthy paired with freshman Catilin Fitzgerald (Lynn, Mass.) in doubles, but would fall to Hernandez and Lauren Cameron 8-1.

Of Fitzgerald, Weinreb said, "she has a lot of energy, and great footwork."

MaryJane Barron (Whitinsville, Mass.), playing in the fifth spot, posted the teams second best appearance coming within two of winning the first set. Barron lost to Suffolk's Thuy Le 6-4, 6-2.

The team playing in its first match has its disadvantages, but it has advantages as well. "We need to work on our strokes and technical skills," said Weinreb. "As the season progresses we'll see more wins on our side."
