
Luhnau, Taylor Earn GNAC Weekly Awards
WINTHROP, Mass. – After combining for seven event victories to lead Regis College to victories over Saint Joseph's College and UMass Dartmouth in Friday's double-dual meet, senior Olivia Luhnau (Castle Rock, Colo.) has been selected Female Swimming and Diving Swimmer of the Week and first-year competitor Kali Taylor (Brattleboro, Vt.) has been named Female Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), announced Monday, Nov. 11, by the league office.
Luhnau and Taylor helped Regis open the meet with a two-second victory in the 200 medley relay with an overall time of 2:06.71. Luhnau posted a 50 breaststroke split of 34.36 seconds, while Taylor anchored the relay with a 50 freestyle split of 26.55 seconds.
Luhnau then picked up three individual victories, touching the wall first in the 50 breaststroke in a season-best 34.02 seconds, the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.70, a season-best time by two seconds, and the 100 individual medley in 1:07.88, yet another season-best mark for the senior captain. This is Luhnau's second weekly award of the season, as she was previously honored Oct. 14.
Taylor also won three individual events, starting with a seven-second victory in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:08.26. She then earned a victory in the 50 freestyle by 0.26 seconds with a season-best time of 27.17 seconds and followed that with a convincing victory in the 500 freestyle in 5:52.92, also a season-best mark. Taylor is being recognized for the second time in three weeks after picking up her first career weekly award Oct. 28.
The Regis College swimming and diving team will next compete in the Regis Invitational Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7. The Friday session is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., followed by the Saturday session at 11 a.m.
