WESTON, Mass. - Despite seven event victories, the Regis College women's swimming and diving team was unable to overcome an early deficit as the University of Saint Joseph earned the dual meet victory, 141-126, Friday night at the Regis Pool.
The veterans led the way for the Pride, as senior Olivia Luhnau (Castle Rock, Colo.) paced the team with three event victories, touching the wall first in the 50 breaststroke in 34.54 seconds, the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.23, and the 100 individual medley in 1:08.12. In both breaststroke events, Sophia Nylin (Malden, Mass.) finished second in her first collegiate meet, posting times of 37.02 seconds in the 50 breaststroke and 1:26.28 in the 100 breaststroke.
Senior Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.) picked up two event victories, winning the 50 backstroke in 31.78 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:10.23. In addition, Aptt finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:12.98.
Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) and Vera Rivard (Springfield, N.H.) went 1-2 in the 1000 freestyle, with Hubster finishing first in 13:06.10 followed by Rivard in second place at 13:54.35. Hubster also cruised to the victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:26.91 and finished second in the 100 individual medley in 1:15.56, out-touching the third place swimmer by 18/100ths of a second.
Regis College (0-1) heads right back into competition, making the short drive to Babson Park, Mass., to face Babson College Saturday, Oct. 12, beginning at 11 a.m.
