Women’s Swim Team Excels at Regis Invitational

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College women's swimming and diving team posted numerous season-best times Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1-2, as the Pride welcomed Elms College and Gordon College to the Regis Pool for the Regis Invitational.

Early in Friday night's session, Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) posted a season-best time of 12:12.61 to finish second in the 1000 freestyle, and then she won the 500 freestyle by over 11 seconds with a season-best mark of 5:58.64.

Saturday, Hubster competed in the 1650 freestyle for the first time in her collegiate career and posted another second place finish in 20:42.77. She then helped the Pride rally to a victory in the 400 freestyle relay, joining with Davinity Smallwood (Naugatuck, Conn.), Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.), and Olivia Luhnau (Castle Rock, Colo.) for an overall time of 4:10.08, 55/100ths of a second ahead of Gordon's quartet.

Luhnau picked up victories in the 50 breaststroke in 34.06 seconds, the 50 freestyle in 26.24 seconds, and the 100 individual medley by over five seconds with a time of 1:05.49, all season-best times. She also anchored the 800 freestyle relay to close out Friday's session, teaming with Aptt, Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.), and Hubster for an overall time of 8:57.68, with Luhnau completing her 200 free split in an event-best 2:08.38.

Miller collected victories in the 50 backstroke in 29.59 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:04.92, posting season-best times in both events. Saturday, Miller won the 200 backstroke in 2:23.88, followed by Luhnau in 2:24.45 and Aptt in 2:30.79, plus she led off the 400 medley relay with a 100 back split of 1:04.98 as she joined Luhnau, Aptt, and Whitney Assamoi (Boston, Mass.) for a winning time of 4:35.54.

Abby Parker (Peru, Mass.) picked up a victory in Friday's 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:22.44, 52/100ths of a second ahead of the second place finisher.

Regis College returns to competition after the holiday break, facing Simmons University and Colby-Sawyer College in a meet hosted by the Sharks in Boston Saturday, Jan. 6, starting at 11 a.m.
