Pride Swimmers Competitive at Roger Williams Invite

BRISTOL, R.I. – Several members of the Regis swimming and diving team posted competitive performances Saturday at the Roger Williams Invitational hosted by the Hawks at the RWU Aquatics Center.

The Pride started off the meet with two top three placements in the 200 medley relay, as Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.), Olivia Luhnau (Denver, Colo.), Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.), and Olivia Roux (Sanford, Maine) finished third with an overall time of 2:03.42. The men's quartet of Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.), Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.), Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa), and Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.) finished second in their race in 1:50.67.

Roux and Luhnau finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 50 freestyle, with Roux's time of 27.50 seconds just ahead of Luhnau at 27.54 seconds. They also finished close together in the 100 freestyle, as Roux ended up fifth in 1:00.98 and Luhnau sixth in 1:01.03.

After placing sixth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:08.84, Aptt finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.03, just 58/100ths of a second behind the winner. The women capped their participation with a third place finish in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:33.08, ending up third in the team standings with 210 points.

Individually for the men, Nagaraj finished eighth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.33 seconds, followed by a fifth place finish in the 100 freestyle in 53.87 seconds. Kim also picked up points for the Pride with an eighth place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:21.61 and a fifth place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.89.

The Pride men also scored in the 200 freestyle relay as the foursome of Michael Curtis (Burlington, Mass.), Madriz, Werner, and Nagaraj finished second with a time of 1:40.12, 1.68 seconds in front of the Gordon College relay squad. Regis and Gordon tied for second place in the men's team standings with 38 points apiece.

Regis College will compete at Bridgewater State against the Bears and Eastern Connecticut State next Saturday, Oct. 22, beginning at 1 p.m.
