GNAC Title for Murphy Highlights Saturday at League Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Cashman Murphy (Westwood, Mass.) won the conference title in one meter diving as Regis College continued competition at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at the Boston Sports Institute.

Murphy finished atop the one meter diving standings with a six-dive total of 228.90, over 20 points in front of her nearest competitor. It is the third time a Regis diver has won the conference title in one meter diving, as current assistant coach Elisabeth McQuaid won in both 2016-17 and 2017-18.

Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) earned All-GNAC honors in the 200 backstroke, finishing in third place with a time of 2:14.16, just 17/100ths of a second behind the second place finisher. Boatwright also finished fourth in the 50 backstroke in 29.19 seconds, with Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.) ending up ninth in the 50 backstroke in 31.22 seconds and 13th in the 200 backstroke in 2:29.49. Shawna MacNeil (Medford, Mass.) finished 15th overall in the 50 backstroke in 32.92 seconds.

Olivia Luhnau (Denver, Colo.) finished fifth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:26.10, and then she won the consolation final of the 100 freestyle for an 11th place overall finish in 57.42 seconds. Also in the 100 freestyle, Abigail Geaney (Lynn, Mass.) finished 19th overall in 1:07.75. In the 100 butterfly, Alexa Lancisi (Milford, Mass.) touched the wall in seventh place in 1:03.59, and Mallytza Ibarra Davila (Yuma, Ariz.) won the consolation final to end up 11th overall with a time of 1:10.34.

In the 100 breaststroke, Julia Burke (Barrington, N.H.) finished in sixth place with a time of 1:12.27, followed by Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.) in seventh place in 1:13.30. Cecelia Adelfio (Gloucester, Mass.) posted a ninth place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:47.41.

The quartet of Boatwright, Burke, Lancisi, and Luhnau capped off the night with a third place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:16.09. The Pride women concluded the night in fourth place in the team standings with 310 points.

On the men's side, Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.) finished in fifth place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:58.18, and Sam Madriz (Union, N.J.) posted a ninth place finish in the 100 butterfly in 59.87 seconds. The Pride men sit in fifth place in the team standings with 16 points.

The GNAC Swimming and Diving Championships conclude Sunday with swimming preliminaries at 9:30 a.m. and finals at 4 p.m. Murphy will head to Simmons University to compete in the three meter diving event starting at 10 a.m.
