Pride Swim & Dive Teams Split Dual Meet with Husson

WESTON, Mass. – In a competitive dual meet, the Regis College women's swimming and diving team earned a close victory over Husson University, 139-131, while the Pride men earned five individual event victories as the Eagles prevailed, 166-66, Saturday at the Regis Pool.

Senior Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) led the way for the Pride women, starting with the third leg of the 200 medley relay as she joined Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.), Julia Burke (Barrington, N.H.), and Olivia Luhnau (Denver, Colo.) to win the event by five seconds with an overall time of 1:58.69. Boatwright's first individual victory came in the 50 backstroke in 30.38 seconds, followed by Miller in second place in 31.55 seconds.

Boatwright led a Regis 1-2-3 finish in the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 1:04.76, ahead of Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.) in 1:05.78 and Miller in 1:07.20. Boatwright concluded her day with a two-second victory in the 200 individual medley, posting a team season-best time of 2:24.14.

Burke picked up two individual victories of her own, starting with a win in the 50 breaststroke in 32.74 seconds. She also earned a victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.15, leading another 1-2-3 Pride finish that also included Luhnau in second place in 1:14.60 and Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.) in third place in 1:16.57.

Luhnau touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle with a team season-best time of 2:06.92, while Cecelia Adelfio (Gloucester, Mass.) cut over 17 seconds off her previous season-best mark in the 500 freestyle, winning that event in 5:51.63. Cashman Murphy (Westwood, Mass.) finished first in the six-dive event of one meter diving with a total score of 227.30, plus she posted a season-best score of 146.25 in the five-dive one meter diving event earlier in the meet.

On the men's side, Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.) finished first in the 200 freestyle by almost nine full seconds with a time of 1:51.02, and then he came right back to win the 50 backstroke in 28.19 seconds. During a time trial, Pike broke his own pool record in the 400 individual medley by over one full second, completing the event in 4:26.23.

Sam Madriz (Union, N.J.) also picked up two individual event victories, touching the wall first in the 100 butterfly with a season-best time of 58.27 seconds and in the 50 butterfly in 26.30 seconds, also a season-best mark. Robert Wood (Cathedral City, Calif.) cut almost three full seconds off his previous season-best time in the 100 backstroke as he won the event in 1:03.19.

Regis College will take the next month off from competition to concentrate on fall semester finals and enjoying the winter break before returning to the pool to prepare for a meet against conference rivals Simmons University and Colby-Sawyer College Saturday, Jan. 8, starting at 12 p.m. in Boston.
