Harris Earns GNAC Rookie of Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – With solid results in the first two meets of collegiate competition, sophomore Laylan Harris (McKinney, Texas) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

In the season-opening meet against USJ and UNE, Harris finished first in the 200 freestyle in 2:11.83, the 50 freestyle in 26.88 seconds, and the 50 butterfly in 29.15 seconds, plus she anchored the 200 freestyle relay to a three-second win with a total time of 1:51.45.

Saturday at the Roger Williams Invitational, Harris finished fifth in both the 200 freestyle (2:11.89) and the 50 freestyle (27.03) as well as sixth in the 100 freestyle (1:00.46). Harris also led off the 200 freestyle relay with a 50 free split of 27.35 seconds to help the team improve on its previous time with a mark of 1:50.33.

This is the first weekly award for a member of the Regis women's swimming and diving team since Gloria Sutton was named GNAC Athlete of the Week Nov. 25, 2019.

The Regis College swimming and diving team heads to Willimantic, Conn., for a dual meet against Eastern Connecticut State Saturday, Oct. 23, starting at 11 a.m. The women's team will also be competing against Stonehill College in a double-dual format.
