Sarah Leonard Named NEISDA Female Swimmer of Week

WESTON, Mass. – After leading Regis College to a dual meet victory over University of New England last Saturday, senior Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) has been named the Female Swimmer of the Week by the coaches of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA), announced earlier this week.

Leonard opened the meet by posting a 50 back split of 28.78 seconds in the 200 medley relay, helping her relay squad win the event with a total time of 1:58.03. She earned her first individual victory of the day in the 50 backstroke, touching the wall first with a time of 28.87 seconds, over two seconds faster than her nearest competitor.

The senior captain prevailed by 6/10ths of a second in the 50 freestyle, winning that event in 26.72 seconds. Leonard capped the day with a victory in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.27, almost two seconds quicker than the second place finisher.

This is Leonard's third career NEISDA weekly honor and her fifth overall weekly award, as she was named GNAC Female Athlete of the Week twice during the 2018-19 season.

The Regis College swimming and diving teams head to Bristol, R.I., for the Roger Williams Invitational Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at 11 a.m.
