BOSTON – Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) won Regis College's second conference event title of the weekend, and several of her teammates produced scoring performances Sunday to lead the Pride women to a second-place finish at the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Simmons University at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium.

After posting the fastest time in the morning preliminaries, Leonard swam even faster in the 50 backstroke final, winning by exactly one-and-a-half seconds in 27.68 seconds, just 7/100ths of a second off the school record time she posted Friday leading off the 200 medley relay. Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) also improved from the morning to the afternoon, finishing third in the final in 29.31 seconds. In the B-final, Caoilinn Bassignani (Franklin, Mass.) finished third (11^th overall) in 33.25 seconds, and Julia Burke (North Andover, Mass.) finished fifth (13^th overall) in 34.29 seconds.

Leonard came close to another individual conference title, finishing second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.49, just 59/100ths of a second off the winning time that set a pool and GNAC record. Boatwright finished third in the event with a time of 1:03.49, and Bassignani ended up 11^th overall, finishing third in the B-final in 1:11.16.

The Pride also posted a 2-3 finish in the 50 butterfly, as Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) finished second in 28.00 seconds, only 24/100ths of a second behind the winner. Alexa Lancisi (Milford, Mass.) was right behind in third place in 28.05 seconds, and Katherine Mariano (Newton, Mass.) finished in sixth place in 28.99 seconds.

Lancisi also finished third in the 200 butterfly, completing the afternoon final in 2:24.09 after posting the fastest time in the morning preliminary race at 2:23.41. Zernitsky finished fourth in the 50 freestyle in 26.10 seconds, followed by Amy Collins (Hanson, Mass.) in eighth place in 27.64 seconds and Mallytza Ibarra Davila (Yuma, Ariz.) in 15^th place overall in 28.94 seconds.

Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.) earned a fourth-place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:04.92. She also touched the wall fifth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:44.36, followed by Burke in sixth place in 2:45.10 and Hayley Ferguson (Billerica, Mass.) in eighth place in 2:50.94.

In the B-final of the 200 freestyle, Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.) finished fourth in 2:09.40 for a 12^th place finish overall in the event, and Mariano finished sixth in the race and 14^th overall in 2:10.14. Sutton and Mariano joined Bowie and Boatwright for a second-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay with an overall time of 8:36.48.

Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) finished sixth in the three-meter diving event with a total score of 189.70. As a team, the Pride finished comfortably in second place with 669 points, but Simmons University cruised to another GNAC title with 1,196 points.

Several members of the Regis women's swimming and diving team have met qualifying standards to compete in the NEISDA Championships Feb. 21-24 at the MIT Zesiger Sports & Fitness Center in Cambridge, Mass.
