PRIDE COMPETE IN DAY ONE OF CHAMPIONSHIPS

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Regis College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in day one of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association championships Friday on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.

Through the first day, the Pride men rank fourth in the meet with 150 points while the Pride women rank eighth with 168 points.

For the Pride men, junior swimmer Cassidy Bastianelli (Newton, Mass.) placed second and set a new school record in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:47.59. The men's 400 medley relay team of junior Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.), junior Bryan Johnson (Sudbury, Mass.) sophomore Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) and Cassidy Bastianelli placed third with a school record time of 3:33.10. Luong also won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 50.38. Rainville placed fifth in the same event and earned 14 points with a time of 52.69. Johnson finished third in the 50 yard breast and earned 16 points with a time of 27.78. Freshman Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) was the third swimmer to complete the 200 yard medley with a time of 2:04.96.

For the women, Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) broke her own school record from last year in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.37. Freshman Amanda Graf (Newton, Mass.) finished fourth and set a new school record in the 200 yard medley with a time of 2:13.26.

The Pride return to action tomorrow in day two of the championships.
