HIGGINS SHINES IN SECOND DAY OF CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

BOSTON – The Regis College men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up day two of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday at the campus of Simmons College.

Seven members of the Pride swimming and diving teams were named to the All-Conference teams while one broke numerous conference and one school record.

Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) was easily the best swimmer for the Crimson and Gold as he set four GNAC records, one school record, earned four personal All-Invite honors and was part of two relay teams that took home All-Invite honors.

Luong set the GNAC record in the 100 fly (51.47), 200 back (2:00.42), 100 individual medley (54.30), which was also a school best and the 50 back (24.51). Luong was part of the 200 medley relay squad with Bryan Johnson (Sudbury, Mass.), Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) and Cassidy Bastianelli (Newton, Mass.) that set the conference record in 1:39.21. Luong teamed up with Rainville, Johnson and Bastianelli again to earn All-Invite honors in the 400 free relay with a GNAC record time of 3:18.35.

Newcomer Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) took home All-Invite honors in the men's 200 individual medley. Cassidy Bastianelli set the conference record in the 200 freestyle completing the race in 1:46.45. Junior Bryan Johnson was named to the All-Invite team with a 1:02.82 finish in the 100 breast. Johnson also earned All-Invite honors in the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.07.

For the women, Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) was the lone selection for the All-Conference team taking the 200 backstroke in 2:15.08, setting a new GNAC record in the process. Higgins also earned All-Conference honors in the 100 backstroke, completing the race on 1:02.46

The Regis men return to action after Christmas break on January 16th with a home meet against Colby-Sawyer at 11:00 a.m., while the women host Simmons on the same day.
