WESTON, Mass. – After an almost scoreless first half, Regis College increased its offensive pressure to score once in each half to defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 2-1, Wednesday night in a non-conference match at Regis Stadium.
After an almost scoreless first half, Regis scored in the 43rd minute on a corner kick. Alexis Sherry (Salem, Mass.) entered the ball into the box for Brooke McAloney (Hanson, Mass.) to make contact, sending the ball into the back of the net just inside the right post to lead 1-0 into halftime.
The Pride carried the offensive momentum heavily into the second half, scoring just minutes after kickoff, in the 48th minute of action. Colleen Curran (Woburn, Mass.) sent a cross pass to find Sienna Santiago (Brewster, Mass.) in the center of the box, taking a shot that sailed past the Leopard goalie for a 2-0 lead.
Close to midway through the second half, the Leopards gained possession of the ball in the Pride defensive zone, drawing out the Regis goalie to the bottom right side of the box. Lily Carson of the Leopards sent a pass back up to the center of the box, meeting Bryce Bateman to score their first and only goal of the match to trail by one. Regis outshot Wentworth 9-8 in the second half but was unable to extend their lead, resulting in a 2-1 final.
Alison Jerram (Waltham, Mass.) kept the Pride in the match as she collected nine saves. Claire Reif faced five shots on goal and made three saves for the Leopards.
Regis (6-5-3, 4-2-3 GNAC) is scheduled to host Anna Maria College on Senior Day, Saturday, Oct. 12 at 5:00 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
