NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Despite a 13-9 edge in overall shots, Regis College could not take advantage of as many scoring opportunities, as Norwich University defeated the Pride 3-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's collegiate soccer match at Sabine Field.
The Cadets struck first less than four minutes into the match as Colby Magoon earned her first goal of the season off an assist from Kat Probst. The Pride threatened to tie the match just over four minutes later, but Sienna Santiago's (Brewster, N.Y.) shot was turned away by goalie Rebecca Karis.
Norwich responded in the 10th minute with another goal, as Probst found Magoon with another pass to score the second Cadet goal of the match. Regis gained offensive momentum immediately after kickoff as Avary Hall (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) made her way up the field to ultimately take a shot, just missing the net.
Norwich scored their third and final goal of the match in the 22nd minute after Lindsey Duggan connected with Probs to find the back of the net, extending their lead, 3-0, into halftime.
Within the second half, the Pride pressured the Cadet defense, taking several shots in the offensive zone. In the 57th minute after multiple shot attempts, Hall found the back of the net to put Regis on the board, trailing by two. Both teams were unable to score for the remainder of the match resulting in a 3-1 final.
Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) started and remained in net for the duration of the match making six saves for the Pride.
