Women's Soccer Opens GNAC Play with Convincing Victory

NEW LONDON, Conn. – There were four different goal scorers for the Pride, leading the women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory against Mitchell College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match Saturday afternoon.

Regis outshot the Mariners 33-2 in the match while also finishing with a 14-1 advantage for corner kicks, contributing to the win.

The Pride offense did not let up, even after nearly 33 minutes of play without a goal. The Pride scored first in the 34th minute of action. After switching fields, the Regis defense sent the ball up the field and into the middle, where Sienna Santiago (Brewster, N.Y.) beat a defender and sent the ball into the back of the net for the first Pride goal of the game. Just under three minutes later, Delaney Scanlon (Dracut, Mass.) was able to find Avary Hall (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) in front of the net to clear the ball past the Mariner goalie to increase the lead to 2-0.

In the 38th minute of action, the Pride put up one more goal as Scanlon connected with Lindsay Burnham (Bow, N.H.) to give Regis a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Pride offense kept the pressure on in the second half, forcing an own goal in the 47th minute of play. Regis continued that pressure on the Mariner defense, taking eight consecutive shots just before Scanlon met Hall with a pass for the fifth Pride goal of the match.

Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) started in net before Alison Jerram (Waltham, Mass.) finished the match, as neither Regis goalie faced any shots on goal.

Regis (2-2, 1-0 GNAC) is scheduled to travel to face Emmanuel College on Wednesday, Sept. 11, starting at 7:00 p.m.
