Regis Drops to Colby Sawyer, 3-2, in GNAC Quarterfinals

NEW LONDON, N.H. – In the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament, Saturday, Oct. 28, Regis College fell to Colby-Sawyer, 3-2, after taking an early 2-0 lead.

Each team created scoring chances early in the first half, starting with two shots from the Chargers, one high and another saved by Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.).

Just over three minutes into the match, Maeve Glavin (Norwood, Mass.) assisted Colleen Curran (Woburn, Mass.) for the first Pride goal of the game.

Later in the first half, after a shot from Samantha Perkins (Whitman, Mass.) was turned away by Alexis LeBreton, Avary Hall (Bloomsfield Hills, Mich.) kept the pressure on, taking a shot on goal with another save by LeBreton.

In the 32nd minute, Glavin found the back of the net, scoring on a penalty kick, to give Regis a 2-0 lead.

After making their way into the Pride defensive zone, the Chargers scored their first goal six minutes into the second half, as Kara Keiper connected with Bridget O'Connell.

O'Connell was able to tie the game for Colby-Sawyer in the 72nd minute after receiving a pass from Sam Bishop. Less than three minutes later, the final goal of the game was scored by the Chargers' Hannah Marquis, with an assist from Keiper.

The Chargers outshot Regis, 14-8, including an advantage of shots on goal, 6-5. Mazo finished with three saves.

The Pride conclude the 2023 season 9-5-4 overall, including 8-3-4 in the GNAC. Colby-Sawyer is scheduled to compete in the semifinals, with the opponent to be determined on Sunday, Oct. 29.
