Regis Defeats Bulldogs, 4-2, Clinching 5th Seed in GNAC Tournament

FRANKLIN, Mass. –The Regis College women's soccer team defeated Dean College, 4-2, in the last Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season game.

The Pride scored just after 25 minutes of an evenly faced match, when Colleen Curran (Woburn, Mass.) sent a ball into the box from the left side. Reese Hatin (Hooksett, N.H.) anticipated Curran's pass, scoring on a header for her first collegiate goal.

In the 39th minute, Payton Bridge (Norton, Mass.) scored on a penalty kick, bringing Regis to a 2-0 lead.

With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, the Pride extended the lead with Delaney Scanlon (Dracut, Mass.) scoring off a pass from Avary Hall (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) who received a pass down the right side of the field from Erin Flaherty (Ashland, Mass.).

The final goal of the match was scored from Hall, with a shot taken off the Bulldogs goalkeeper. In the 78th minute, the Bulldogs got on the board after a penalty kick was drawn from a handball. Allie Bezio scored her first collegiate goal and the first goal of the game for the Bulldogs.

With just less than six minutes remaining, Jazzy Sztyler-Magee found the back of the net for the final goal of the game.

Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, Calif.) was credited with the win after a scoreless first half with two saves. Cristina Nazario (Isla Verde, Puerto Rico) allowed two goals and made four saves in the second half.

Regis (9-4-4, 8-3-4 GNAC) has earned a spot in the GNAC postseason as the fifth seed, and is scheduled to travel to Colby-Sawyer to face the Chargers on Saturday, Oct. 28, with a start time of 12:00 p.m.
