Women’s Soccer Earns Key GNAC Road Victory, 3-1

NEWTON, Mass. - Regis College jumped on the board quickly and then let its defense take over before adding a couple insurance goals as the Pride defeated Lasell University, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer match at Taylor Field.

After Lasell (9-5-2, 8-3-2 GNAC) created a scoring chance early in the match, Regis went on the counter-attack in the fourth minute as Avary Hall (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) raced up the right side of the field and received a long pass. She crossed the ball into the box where Colleen Curran (Woburn, Mass.) was able to meet the ball and send it into the net for her eighth goal of the season.

The Lasers' best scoring chance in the first half occurred in the 32nd minute as Camdyn LaMarre's shot seemed destined to tie the contest, but Payton Bridge (Norton, Mass.) was able to clear the ball before it crossed the goal line to keep Regis on top. Nine minutes into the second half, LaMarre again threatened to score, but Pride keeper Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) made a diving save to prevent the goal.

With just under 17 minutes remaining in the second half, Regis picked up another goal as a crossing pass was redirected into the net by a Laser defender for an own goal. Hall would collect her fifth goal of the season with just over two minutes left as she beat the Lasell goalie on a breakaway, but the home team would break the shutout 30 seconds later as Michelina D'Agostino converted on a penalty kick opportunity.

Mazo finished with six saves, four of them coming in the second half as she held off the Lasers before the Pride could extend their advantage. Lasell outshot Regis, 12-5, led by LaMarre with four total shots.

Regis College (7-4-4, 6-3-4 GNAC) hosts Simmons University Saturday, Oct. 21, starting at 12 p.m. in the final regular season home contest of the year for the Pride. Before the match, the seniors will be recognized during the Senior Day presentation.
