Women’s Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw

NEW LONDON, N.H. - In an even contest, Regis College and Colby-Sawyer College played to a 0-0 draw Wednesday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer match at the Kelsey Soccer Field.

The first half saw play remain within the middle of the field for the majority of time, as the teams combined for just 10 total shots. Regis, earning seven of those shots, enjoyed the best scoring chances, first off a free kick in the 32nd minute by Samantha Perkins (Whitman, Mass.) that was turned away by Charger goalie Alexis LeBreton. One minute later, shortly after she came onto the field as a substitution, Delaney Scanlon (Dracut, Mass.) blasted a shot that hit the left post.

Colby-Sawyer (7-3-3, 6-2-1 GNAC) picked up its offensive attack in the second half, outshooting Regis 5-2 after halftime. The Chargers first threatened to score 10 minutes into the period thanks to a shot by Kara Keiper, but Pride goalie Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, Calif.) was able to make the save.

The best chance for the home team came in the 72nd minute as Lauren McKee launched a shot from the right side of the field, but Van Cott was able to leap and swat the ball away to keep the Chargers off the scoreboard. The Pride created one final scoring opportunity late in regulation on a free kick, but Perkins' attempt sailed over the crossbar.

Van Cott played the entire match for the first time this season, collecting four saves on the way to her third career shutout. LeBreton only needed to make the one first half save to earn her clean sheet.

Regis College (4-4-3, 3-3-3 GNAC) returns to New Hampshire Saturday, Oct. 7, to take on Rivier University starting at 12 p.m. The Pride then host Norwich University next Wednesday, Oct. 11, beginning at 5 p.m. on Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
