Women’s Soccer Loses GNAC Contest to Blue Jays

WESTON, Mass. - Despite a 15-8 edge in overall shots, Regis College could not take advantage of as many scoring opportunities as the University of Saint Joseph, as the Blue Jays defeated the Pride, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's collegiate soccer match at Regis Stadium.

The Blue Jays struck first less than eight minutes into the contest as Elizabeth Garlock earned her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Marisa Brough. The Pride threatened to tie the match four minutes later, but Colleen Curran's (Woburn, Mass.) shot was turned away by USJ goalie Madison Corcoran.

In the 25th minute, the Blue Jays drew a foul within the 18-yard box for a penalty kick opportunity that Jenna Zup successfully converted for her seventh goal of the season. Less than three minutes into the second half, USJ picked up its third goal of the day as Samantha Sacco earned her first goal of the season, with Kelsi Ursini collecting the assist.

Within the final 10 minutes, the Pride pressured the Blue Jay defense, taking several shots that were on target but unable to elude Corcoran. Finally, Avary Hall (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) picked up a pass from Curran in the 88th minute and converted on a shot for her second goal of the season.

Curran led all players with four total shots, including three shots on goal. Corcoran ended up with seven saves as she earned the victory, while Regis goalie Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, Calif.) was credited with two saves.
