Pride Women’s Soccer Posts Second Straight Shutout

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's soccer team once again controlled the majority of the possession on its way to a 3-0 victory over Mitchell College Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at Regis Stadium.

The Pride quickly gained possession and took several shots as the opening half went along, but the team could not zero in on the target. In the 24th minute, Colleen Curran (Woburn, Mass.) was taken down within the 18-yard box to create a penalty kick opportunity for the home team. Payton Bridge (Norton, Mass.) stepped up and connected for her first goal of the season.

In the final minute of the first period, a shot by Janet Amasa-Titus (Georgetown, Mass.) was blocked, but the Mariner defense failed to clear the ball away. Maeve Glavin (Norwood, Mass.) was able to collect the ball and send it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season, giving Regis a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Mitchell goalie Gemma Landry kept her team within striking distance with six saves in the second half, including saves on two shots by Delaney Scanlon (Dracut, Mass.) within a four-and-a-half minute span. In the 70th minute, a shot by Avary Hall (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) sailed past Landry, but it hit the crossbar and failed to completely cross the goal line.

With less than three minutes remaining in the match, Scanlon made another run up the left side of the field and moved towards the Mariner goal with the ball. It eluded Landry and found the foot of Curran, who was successful in scoring her second goal in as many matches.

The Pride finished with a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal as well as a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) was called upon to make just one save as she earned her first shutout of the season.
