Regis Women’s Soccer Cruises to Home Win Heading into GNAC Tourney

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College took care of business in preparation for the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Soccer Tournament, defeating Dean College, 3-0, in the regular season finale for both teams Wednesday night at a foggy Regis Stadium.

However, both Emmanuel College and Saint Joseph's College won their matches Wednesday, meaning that Regis ends up as the fifth seed in the GNAC Tournament and will travel to Standish, Maine, to face the fourth seed Monks Saturday, Oct. 29, starting at 2 p.m. The Pride will look to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Monks this past Saturday.

Regis immediately pressured the Dean defense, striking first in the sixth minute on an unassisted goal by Hailey Lovell (Wakefield, Mass.), her seventh goal of the season. Late in the first half, Meadow Comeiro (Woburn, Mass.) set up Maria Toumbouras (Walpole, Mass.) for her second goal of the season as the Pride took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Toumbouras would add an assist in the 75th minute, racing up the left side of the field with the ball and sending a crossing pass into the box. Maeve Glavin (Norwood, Mass.) positioned herself in front of the net and redirected the ball into the goal for her first career collegiate tally.

In total, the Pride finished with 35 shots, led by Lovell and Aria Ulmer (Henniker, N.H.) with eight shots apiece, with Toumbouras contributing six total shots. Dean goalkeeper Haley Gaunt collected 13 saves in the match, including 10 saves in the first half to keep the Bulldogs close.

For the Pride, Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) started the match in net and played the entire first half without needing to make a save. Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, Calif.) took over in the second half and was credited with one save as the twosome combined for Regis' eighth shutout of the season.

Regis College finished the regular season with a 10-5-2 record, including a 9-3-1 mark within the GNAC, the most conference victories in a single season in program history. The Pride will look to advance to the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament for the first time in four attempts.
