Pride Women’s Soccer Cruises to Conference Victory

WESTON, Mass. - In its highest-scoring output in 11 years, Regis College received contributions from several different players on its way to a 9-0 victory over Rivier University Wednesday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer match at Regis Stadium.

Sara Costa (Ludlow, Mass.) notched her first career hat trick with three second-half goals, while Hailey Lovell (Wakefield, Mass.) finished with one goal and three assists. Meadow Comeiro (Woburn, Mass.) earned her second goal of the season as well as her first two career assists, and Allison Meade (Stoneham, Mass.) also enjoyed a multiple-point match with two assists.

Just 2:25 in the contest, Regis received a penalty kick opportunity when Rivier was called for a handball in the box, and Aria Ulmer (Henniker, N.H.) converted on the chance for her second goal of the season. In the 17th minute, Meade entered the ball off a corner kick, Lovell settled the ball down and directed it towards Ashley Morin (Thompson, Conn.), who chipped it into the net for her first career tally.

The Pride's final goal of the first half came when Olivia Dench (Center Moriches, N.Y.) found the back of the net for her first career goal. Costa scored half of the Pride's second half goals, with Lovell and Elisa D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y.) assisting on her first one in the 55th minute, Emma Nunnemacher (West Boylston, Mass.) setting up Costa's second tally in the 61st minute, and Costa completing the hat trick with an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute.

Comeiro's goal came in the 58th minute as she corralled a pass from Meade and converted on the scoring chance. Maya DiMino (Billerica, Mass.) earned her first career goal in the final minute of the match thanks to another long pass from Lovell, allowing the Pride to reach the nine-goal mark in a match for the first time since a 9-1 victory over Wheelock Sept. 24, 2011.

Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, Calif.) played the first half in net for the Pride, with Cristina Nazario (Isla Verde, Puerto Rico) and Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) splitting up the second half between the pipes. Costa led Regis with 10 total shots, followed by Comeiro with eight shots.

For Rivier, Julia Cafferty played the first half as the goalkeeper and finished with eight saves. Emily Mikelson entered the match at the start of the second half and was credited with 10 saves as the Pride maintained their offensive pressure throughout the contest.
