Alex Macpherson Named Head Coach of Regis Pride Women’s Soccer

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College Dean of Athletics Pam Roecker has announced that Alex Macpherson will become the head coach of the Pride women's soccer team, effective July 18, 2022.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Coach Macpherson to our Regis Pride family as our head women's soccer coach," Roecker said. "He has an incredibly engaging personality that I know our current team members are going to thoroughly enjoy, and he is a perfect philosophical match for our program. His holistic approach to coaching, his relational style, and his commitment to excellence helped separate him from the very competitive field of candidates, so the choice was clear. Coach Macpherson brings a wealth of soccer experience and professionalism to this position, and we look forward to seeing him at the helm of this highly competitive program."

Macpherson (first name pronounced "Alec") comes to Regis after one year as the head coach of the varsity girls' soccer program at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass. He oversaw all aspects of the program as it participated in the highly-competitive New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), including player and team development, recruitment, video analysis, team building and culture, and program marketing.

Prior to Cushing, Macpherson served as assistant coach and recruitment coordinator at UMass Lowell from 2019 to 2021. He was part of the America East Women's Soccer Coaching Staff of the Year for 2020-21, when the River Hawks hosted the America East Tournament and collected four major conference awards for their performance during the season.

Macpherson was also part of the Patriot League Women's Soccer Coaching Staff of the Year in 2018 at Boston University, where he was a volunteer assistant coach from 2017 to 2019. The Terriers won the Patriot League title that season to advance into the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament. He assisted in all team training and conditioning events to ensure that program standards were met successfully.

In fall of 2016, Macpherson was an assistant coach for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) champion Wentworth Leopards as they defeated nationally ranked Arcadia to advance to the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament. As interim head coach in the spring of 2017, he implemented a comprehensive practice and game schedule as well as supervised recruiting, strength and conditioning, and other aspects of the program.

Macpherson started his coaching career as assistant coach and recruitment coordinator at Franklin Pierce University from 2014 to 2016. He received his MBA degree in sports management from Franklin Pierce and his Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design from Nottingham Trent University in Nottingham, England, where he was also captain and coach of the men's football (soccer) team.

"I am thrilled to be named the new head coach of women's soccer at Regis College. I want to extend my gratitude to Pam Roecker, Mark Clemente, Laura Ladino, Ron LeClair, and the hiring committee for their faith and support," said Macpherson, who credits mentors Mira Novak, Nancy Feldman, and Bobby Desilets for preparing him for this position. "My commitment to serving our student-athletes will provide an unrivaled experience, both on and off the field, to build on the legacy of this renowned program."

Joining Macpherson on the coaching staff will be second year assistant coach and Regis alum Larissa Perez as well as volunteer assistant coach Morgan Mercier. The Regis College women's soccer team posted an 8-6-2 record during the 2021 season, including a 7-4-2 mark within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference to qualify for the GNAC Tournament.
