Women's Soccer Loses GNAC Home Contest

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College was defeated by Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 1-0, Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's collegiate soccer match at Regis Stadium.

After a defensive first half in which both teams combined for a total of five shots, the stalemate was finally ended in the 71st minute of play when Monks forward Alicen Burnham broke through the Regis defense and scored the only goal of the night with an assist from teammate Nikki Sheehan.
 
The Pride outshot the visitors 15-6 with each team putting two shots on goal. Ori Attridge (Westwood, Mass.) and Angie Caldwell (Goffstown, N.H.) split time in goal for the Pride with Caldwell registering one save on the night. Monks goalie Adia Grogan made two saves in the second half to ensure the shutout.
 
Regis (6-3, 5-2 GNAC) next travels to Providence, R.I., to compete against Johnson & Wales in a conference matchup Saturday afternoon, Oct. 9, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saint Joseph's College (7-6, 6-2 GNAC) heads to Nashua, N.H., to take on Rivier University Saturday, Oct. 9, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
