Women's Soccer Strikes Early on Way to GNAC Victory

WESTON, Mass. - Miya Nishibun (Honolulu, Hawaii) scored two early goals to help Regis College fend off Emmanuel College, 3-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's collegiate soccer match Saturday night at Regis Stadium.

It didn't take long for Regis to get on the board as Nishibun quickly scored off a corner kick in the 10th minute of play to give the Pride a 1-0 lead. Only six minutes later, Nishibun scored yet another unassisted goal to put Regis up 2-0.

Emmanuel came back strong in the second half with a goal in the 53rd minute by senior Kennedy Davignon to cut the score to 2-1. However, in the 79th minute of competition, sophomore Sam Perkins (Whitman, Mass.) put the game out of reach for Emmanuel with an unassisted goal to propel the Pride to victory.

The match was fairly even in shots with Regis College taking 13 shots while Emmanuel finished with 14 shots for the small advantage. Pride goalkeeper Ori Attridge (Westwood, Mass.) finished with a season-high six saves on the night, while Emmanuel keeper Lexi Della Rocco collected three saves for the Saints.

Regis (4-2, 3-1 GNAC) heads to Paxton, Mass., to square off against Anna Maria Wednesday, Sept. 29, starting at 7:00 p.m., and will then return home Saturday, Oct. 2, to face Norwich University beginning at 2:30 p.m.
