Pride Women’s Soccer Battles Through Rainy Season Opener

WESTON, Mass. – In a steady rain throughout most of the match, Regis College battled with Emerson College, but the Lions scored twice in the second half to defeat the Pride, 3-1, Wednesday night in a non-conference women's collegiate soccer contest at Regis Stadium.

Just over 12 minutes into the match, Allison Meade (Stoneham, Mass.) picked up her first career collegiate goal off a free kick to give Regis a 1-0 lead. The Lions would tie the contest in the 31st minute on a tally by Brittney Righetti off an assist from Gina Lukoskie.

Emerson (1-0) would take the lead for good in the 63rd minute as Katie Wojcik drew a foul in the box to create a penalty kick opportunity, and then Righetti connected on the chance for her second goal of the night. Madeline Khaw closed out the scoring in the 83rd minute as she blasted a shot into the upper left corner of the net.

Ori Attridge (Westwood, Mass.) made five saves as she kept Regis in the match, but Megan Rose also earned five saves to stop the Pride from making a comeback. Righetti and Grace Cosgrove led the Lions with four shots apiece, while Meade and Hailey Lovell (Wakefield, Mass.) paced the Pride with three shots each.

Regis (0-1) hosts Fitchburg State Saturday, Sept. 4, beginning at 1 p.m. at Regis Stadium. Emerson opens its home schedule next Wednesday, Sept. 8, against Tufts starting at 6 p.m. at Rotch Field.
