Pride Strike Six Times in GNAC Win

WESTON, Mass. – There were six different goal scorers for the Regis College Pride, leading the women's soccer team to a 6-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win against Rivier Tuesday afternoon.

Kaylee Francis (Millis, Mass.) scored the first goal 4:19 into the match, firing a shot from the left side of the box, putting the ball into the corner to put the Pride up 1-0. Just over four minutes later, Avery Finelli (Colchester, Vt.) was able to find Valerie Gordon (Hudson, N.H.) in front of the net. Gordon then scored her third goal of the season, putting the ball in the lower right corner.

In the 11th minute, Payton Fitzgerald (Danielson, Conn.) scored after Kerri Urquhart (Burlington, Mass.) found her at the top of the six-yard box. Fitzgerald then directed the ball into the net, putting the Pride up by three.

With 2:17 remaining before halftime, Kara Carchedi (Quincy, Mass.) connected with Emma Mendes (Pawtucket, R.I.) at the top of the box, and Mendes then tucked the ball into the upper right corner. The Pride led the Raiders 4-0 heading into the halftime break.

Early in the second half, senior Rachel Kelly (Whitman, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season with a volley from left of the net that went across into the top right corner. Alex Maher (Reading, Mass.) tucked the ball into the net off her left foot with 39:27 remaining in the contest to put the exclamation point on the Pride's 6-0 victory.

The Pride dominated possession, holding the ball for 59 percent of the match. Regis also outshot the Raiders 30-2, with 17 of those shots on net. In addition, the Pride took the only corner kick in the match.

Rivier (2-7-2, 0-5-1 GNAC) will play Emmanuel at home on Friday, Oct. 11 in a GNAC contest.

Regis (6-6, 3-3 GNAC) faces Albertus Magnus in Connecticut Saturday, Oct. 12 at noon. The Pride will then host three GNAC matches in a row beginning Wednesday, Oct. 16, when they take on the Lasers of Lasell University.
