Women’s Soccer Drops GNAC Match to Suffolk

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Suffolk University, 4-1, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's soccer match at Regis Stadium.

Both goalies needed to be on their game right from the start, as Suffolk keeper Allison Rodrigues made four saves and Regis goalie Ori Attridge (Westwood, Mass.) turned away three shots within the first 25 minutes of the match. In the 31st minute, the Rams scored on an own goal by the Pride, putting the visitors ahead 1-0 heading into halftime.

The Pride equaled the match in the 52nd minute as Kaylee Francis (Millis, Mass.) earned her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Payton Fitzgerald (Danielson, Conn.). Less than a minute later, Suffolk took the lead for good on a goal by Caleigh O'Brien.

Just over 10 minutes after O'Brien's goal, Rodrigues prevented the Pride from tying the contest again with saves off shots by Larissa Perez (Pacoima, Calif.) and Noelle Garcia (Los Angeles, Calif.). Shortly after another Rodrigues save, Suffolk extended its lead to 3-1 on a tally by Julia Hunt, and then O'Brien collected her second goal of the day with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.

Rodrigues, one of the top goalies in the GNAC entering the match, finished with 10 saves as Regis outshot Suffolk, 19-12, led by five shots from Francis and four shots from Emma Mendes (Pawtucket, R.I.). Attridge collected seven saves in the contest as she encountered 11 shots on goal, led by O'Brien with five shots on goal as part of her seven total shots.

Regis (4-5, 1-2 GNAC) plays two GNAC road contests over the next week, traveling to Simmons Wednesday, Oct. 2, for a 3:30 p.m. contest and to St. Joseph (Conn.) next Saturday, Oct. 5, for a 12 p.m. kickoff. Suffolk hosts Norwich Wednesday night before making the short trip to face Emmanuel next Saturday afternoon.
