Women's Soccer Shuts Out Rivier

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's soccer team scored four first half goals on Tuesday night as the Pride defeated Rivier University 4-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play at Regis Stadium.

With the win, the Pride improves to 4-8-1, 3-7-1 in GNAC play, while Rivier falls to 1-11-1 overall and 0-10-1 in the GNAC.

Senior Tais Salles (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) opened the scoring for the Pride, tallying her third goal of the season in the 11th minute. Salles took a feed from classmate Michaela Bouvette (Mattapoisett, Mass.) at the top of the six yard box and deposited it into the bottom corner of the net for a 1-0 Pride lead.

Less than three minutes later, freshman Payton Fitzgerald (Danielson, Conn.) doubled the Pride's lead with her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Salles picked up first assist of the season on the goal.

In the 21st minute, Rachel Kelly (Hanson, Mass.) ran the Pride lead to three by netting her fourth goal of the season. Kelly timed her run perfectly from the center of the field, as sophomore Noelle Garcia (Los Angeles, Calif.) fed the ball forward, allowing Kelly to walk in and beat Rivier's Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) to make the score 3-0.

Rookie Emma Mendes (Pawtucket, R.I.) capped the Pride goal-scoring on the night with a tally in the 34th minute. The freshman played a ball between the defender's legs on a 1-on-1 before ripping a shot into the top of the net to make the score 4-0, which would hold as the final score.

Goodspeed was credited with the loss on the evening, making nine saves in the losing effort. At the other end of the field, Kyrsten Drake (Loganville, Ga.) picked up the shutout victory for the Pride, making three saves.

Next up for Regis, they will host old conference foe Lesley University on Thursday night at Regis Stadium. Rivier wraps up its season next Wednesday by hosting Plymouth State.
