Regis Women's Soccer Releases 2016 Schedule

2016 Schedule

WESTON, Mass. Newly-appointed Regis (Mass.) women’s soccer coach Mike Webber has announced his team’s schedule for the 2016 season. The regular season will feature 17 games, including eight out-of-conference matchups.

“We have several tough non-conference opponents this season that will certainly challenge our young team,” said Webber. “I believe those games will prepare us well for our conference schedule. We will be looking to compete and improve each day to ensure we give ourselves every opportunity to secure a high seeding in the NECC Tournament.”

The team will kick off its season on Thursday, Sept. 1, as it travels down the road to Newton to square off with the Mount Ida College Mustangs. Mount Ida is one of three Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) teams that the Pride will face this season, before joining the conference for the 2017 season. The Pride will travel to Anna Maria College on Sept. 13 before hosting Suffolk University on Sept. 15 in the other GNAC previews.

The Pride plays its home opener on Sept. 8, when it hosts to long-time rival Brandeis University. The game is the first of eight the team is scheduled to play at Regis Stadium this fall.

The team’s final season of New England Collegiate Conference play opens on Sept. 17 with a tough test against Elms College. The game is a rematch of the opening round of the 2015 NECC Tournament which saw the second-seeded Blazers top the Pride 2-0. Elms would advance all the way to the NECC Championship before falling to Lesley.

Dean College will become the women’s soccer program’s 58th different opponent when it hosts the Pride on Sept. 19. Dean is currently in the process of becoming a member of the NCAA’s Division III, and the Pride will be just the second NCAA opponent the Bulldogs women’s soccer team hosts.

The Pride wraps up its regular season on Oct. 26 on the road against Newbury College. The NECC Tournament is slated to get underway three days later on Oct. 29.

With an overall record of 5-12-2 in 2015 (3-5-1 NECC), the Pride will be looking to close the book on the NECC on a positive note and take some momentum into GNAC play.
