Regis Plays to Scoreless Draw Against RIC

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's soccer team played to its first draw of the 2016 season on Tuesday afternoon, tying the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen 0-0.

The Pride moves to 5-3-1 on the season as a result of the draw, while Rhode Island College moves to 3-3-2.

The best scoring chance of the game came midway through the second half. Pride rookie Rachel Kelly (Whitman, Mass.) crossed a ball from the right side of the box to classmate Erin Filetti (Newburyport, Mass.) after a miscommunication at the back. Filetti was unable to tap it into the open net, after the Anchorwomen defense corps collapsed back on the net.

Regis freshman Noelle Garcia (Los Angeles, Calif.) shined for the Pride in goal. After starting the game at midfield, the rookie moved between the pipes in the 36th minute when Pride goalkeeper Amanda Matias (Ludlow, Mass.) went down with an injury. Garcia turned away all nine shots she faced to earn the split shutout with Matias (one save). RIC's Amber-Marie Francois (Warwick, R.I.) made three saves to earn a shutout of her own.

Next up for the Pride, they'll head on the road to take on the Mitchell Mariners Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The Anchorwomen return to the field for a home showdown against Lesley University on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m.
