Bouvette, Kelly Score, Pride Top Mount Ida In Season Opener

NEWTON, Mass. - Rachel Kelly (Whitman, Mass.) scored twice, the second a late blast from outside the penalty box to seal a 3-1 season-opening victory at Mount Ida on Thursday at Alumni Field.

The win over the Mustangs (0-1) was the first in the past three opening-day tries and got the Mike Webber era off on the right foot. The Pride completely dominated the match, registering 18 shots and eight corner kicks. Mount Ida had just two shots, connecting on one of them.

Erin Filetti (Newburyport, Mass.) helped give Regis what proved to be the gamewinner in the fourth minute. Her corner kick found the head of Hannah Bouvette (Mattapoisett, Mass.) who scored past Mustang keeper Kyla Bragg (Sanford, Maine). Bragg made five saves in what proved to be a very busy evening.

Kelly scored her first of two goals in the 32nd minute, taking a pass from Kara Carchedi (Quincy, Mass.) and rifling a shot from well outside the penalty area

Mount Ida got back into the game with Rachel Lambert's (Lebanon, Conn.) goal in the 55th minute, but the dominance by the Pride continued, not allowing a shot the rest of the way.

Kelly struck again in the 84th minute to give the Pride (1-0) some insurance and complete the scoreline.

The Pride will have a week off before its home opener against Brandeis. Kickoff at Regis Stadium is set for 4:00 p.m.
