PRIDE SHUTOUT WILDCATS 5-0 ON SENIOR DAY

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's soccer team earned a 5-0 shutout victory against New England Collegiate Conference opponent Wheelock College on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Pride improve to 5-8-2, 3-2-1 NECC and the loss drops the Wildcats to 2-11-0, 1-4-0 NECC.

Before the game, the women's soccer team honored seniors Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.), Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.), Joana Rosa (Boston, Mass.) and Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.) for their contributions to the team and the Regis athletic department.

The game remained scoreless 29 minutes into the game until Abreu got the Pride on the board. After Wheelock goaltender Amarielis Morales (Dorchester, Mass.) redirected a crossing attempt, Abreu gathered the loose ball, fired a shot on net that rebounded off Morales and bounced into the net giving the Crimson and Gold the early 1-0 advantage heading into the intermission.

Regis outshot Wheelock 15-0 in the first half of the contest and also held the advantage in corner kicks 4-0.

The Wildcats had the first opportunity during the second stanza as Alison DeGloria (Chelmsford, Mass.) found space in front for an open shot, but missed the golden opportunity to knot up the score as her shot sailed wide of the net.

The Pride added an insurance goal in the 52nd minute as Joana Rosa found teammate Hannah Bouvette (Mattapoisett, Mass.) with a through ball which led to a one-on-on chance with Morales. Bouvette ran down the center of the pitch while Morales came out of the box aggressively playing the ball. Bouvette took advantage of the aggressive goaltender and chipped in a shot to the bottom right of the net for her fifth goal of the season.

Eight minutes later, Wheelock had another chance after a Regis foul as Courtney Adams (Holliston, Mass.) took a free kick opportunity from just outside the box. Adams lofted the rock high in the air, but the free kick attempt sailed high above the net.

Rosa added her fifth goal of the season to tie Hannah Bouvette for the team lead as she corralled a loose ball rebound in front of the net and fired the rock home increasing the Pride lead to 3-0.

Adams had another chance to get Wheelock within two goals after another Regis foul, however her free kick chance landed right into the arms of Gagnon.

Michaela Bouvette (Mattapoisett, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season during the 75th minute assisted by Erin Loehner (Danvers, Mass.) and Caileigh Darragh (Florence, Mass.) scored her first career collegiate goal seven minutes later.

Rachel Gagnon was fantastic during her last game at Regis Stadium as she made two saves for her third shutout victory of the season. Courtney McWhinnie (Methuen, Mass.) replaced Gagnon and played 5:17 in goal. Amarielis Morales made 13 saves in net for the Wildcats.

Regis travels to Southern Vermont on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. showdown with the Mountaineers while Wheelock travels to Elms on Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. contest with the Blazers.
