PRIDE CAN’T BUY A GOAL IN DOUBLE-OVERTIME DRAW

NASHUA, N.H. – The Regis College women's soccer team played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw against New England Collegiate Conference opponent Daniel Webster College on Saturday afternoon. With the ties, the Pride move to 4-6-2, 2-0-1 NECC on the year while the Eagles move to 1-6-1, 0-2-1 NECC.

The Crimson and Gold outshot Daniel Webster 47-0 in the contest and couldn't sneak a shot past Eagle goaltender Stephanie Evans (Washington, Iowa) who made 25 saves in the draw. Joana Rosa (Boston, Mass.) and Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.) took 10 shots apiece for the Pride while Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.) attempted five.

Daniel Webster had last forged a point in NECC play on October 9th, 2011, also a 0-0 double overtime tie at home against Mitchell.

While a number of Evans's stops were from beyond 20 yards, five stood out in the contest as Regis pressed later in the second half and throughout overtime to break through for the winner.

Michaela Bouvette (Mattapoisett, Mass.) had the first strong chance down the stretch for the victors with 17:07 remaining in regulation taking a loose ball from 5 yards in front but her point-blank shot was batted away by Evans and Sam Salamone was left alone from 16 yards near the right side at the top of the box two minutes later, but her shot whistled inches wide left. Evans would frustrate Bouvette again with 10:20 remaining knocking down a low 10-yarder.

In the first overtime, Regis drew their 12th corner kick of the match and Jenna Novio (Rockland, Mass.) found the loose ball through a scrum with 6:57 left but again Evans turned her 5 yarder aside to the left forcing the second extra session.

In the final period, Regis saw its best chance with 1:30 on the clock as Joana Rosa was left alone on the far right post but her off-balance tip in attempt missed the post by less than a foot and DWC had preserved its tie.

The Eagles are now off until Monday when they visit Wheelock for a NECC matchup at Noon and return home to face Green Mountain on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Regis hosts Lesley in a NECC meeting on Monday at 1:00 p.m.
