WESTON, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Michaela Bouvette (Mattapoisett, Mass.) scored the only goal of the match as the Regis College women's soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Anna Maria College 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Regis Stadium. The victory, the Crimson and Gold's first of the year, improves their record to 1-4-1 and with the setback the AMCATS drop to 2-3-1.

Bouvette's tally was her first of the campaign and it came in the 31st minute of the contest. Junior defender Courtney McWhinnie (Methuen, Mass.) stroked a through ball that split two AMCAT defenders; Bouvette chased down the ball and rifled a one-timer at Anna Maria goalie Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine). Kneeland saved the initial shot, but Bouvette corralled the rebound and ripped the second chance shot home for the lone goal of the game.

The victory was head coach Alex Petrie's first career win since taking over the program this summer.

Anna Maria's two best chances came in the second half of the contest when they were down 1-0. Seven minutes after the intermission, junior defender Melissa Andersen (Oxford, Mass.) made a pretty pass to the team-leader in goals, sophomore midfielder Ashley Bottis (Rutland, Mass.). Bottis dangled through the Pride defensive unit and fired a shot towards the net, but was stifled by Regis goaltender Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.).

With two minutes to play, the AMCATS made a run down the field to the Pride defensive zone. Andersen passed the rock off to Bottis again, who got behind the Regis defense and had a one-on-one opportunity with Gagnon. Bottis made her move while deciding it would be best to chip the ball past the Pride goalie. She wound up her leg and lofted a chip shot towards the cage, but Gagnon leaped high into the air to snag the potential tying goal while making a huge stop to preserve the Regis victory.

The Crimson and Gold outshot the AMCATS 26-5 in the contest with Michaela Bouvette and Joana Rosa (Boston, Mass.) leading the squad with six shots apiece.

Rachel Gagnon earned the shutout as she made three saves in the victory. Kate Kneeland was on the losing side after allowing one goal and stopping a season-high 16 shots.

Regis returns to action on Wednesday, September 23rd when they travel to the University of St. Joseph for a 4:30 p.m. showdown with the Blue Jays.
