PETRIE TABBED AS NEXT WOMEN'S SOCCER COACH

WESTON, Mass. – Director of Athletics Rob Riley and the Regis College athletics department is proud to announce the hiring of Alex Petrie as the next head coach of the women's soccer program. Petrie takes over for Liz Conant who leaves the program after five seasons to join the Regis College faculty full-time.

"I am excited and honored for the opportunity to take over a well established program," said Petrie. I have watched the team from a distance and observed the close knit family that is the Regis women's soccer team. There is a tremendous atmosphere surrounding the team and I am eager to step on the field and coach this amazing group of women."

Petrie returns to the athletics staff after previously serving as the assistant coach for the Regis men's soccer program from 2011-2014. He has previously worked with GPS Metro Boston and Central Mass Futbol Club at the club level with stops at Becker as an assistant coach for four years, and head coach at Milton Academy from 2009-2011.

Petrie becomes the ninth coach in program history and takes over a women's soccer program that has gone 40-25-7 since joining the NECC in 2011 and has qualified for the postseason in all four years. The Pride has made the NECC Semifinals three-straight seasons, including the program's only NECC Finals appearance in 2012.

Currently Petrie works in the Regis Admissions Office as the Assistant Director of Admission and the liaison to the Athletics Department. Petrie will continue to coordinate all athletic recruitment for the department as well as recruit non-student-athletes from across the country.

A 2007 graduate of Becker College where he received a degree in Sports Management, Petrie was a two-sport athlete for the Hawks having been a four year member of both the men's soccer and lacrosse programs, serving as team captain in his junior and senior seasons for both squads.

The 2015 Regis women's soccer season gets underway on September 1 with a 1:00 p.m. matchup at home against MCLA.
