HAMILL SCORES LATE, PRIDE BEST NEWBURY

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College freshman Olivia Hamill (Sudbury, Mass.) scored in the 80th minute to lead the Pride to a 1-0 victory over Newbury College in New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer action on a rainy and cold Wednesday night in Weston, Mass.

Regis improves to 9-5-2 overall and 6-2 in the NECC and have won five of their last six games, including three-straight. The Nighthawks fall to 4-9-1 overall and 3-4-1 in league games.

Regis dominated play in the first half, holding an 18-1 advantage in shots and 7-1 edge in corner kicks. The Pride's first chance came in the 18th minute as Joana Rosa (Roxbury, Mass.) played a ball to the end line that found the feet of Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.). Joseph passed the ball back in front to Rosa, who had a shot at the open net, but she missed left and the score remained 0-0.

Three minutes later, Jasmin Vivar (Attleboro, Mass.) played a through ball into the box to Olivia Hamill. Hamill slipped the ball past the Newbury keeper, but the ball caromed off the post and out of harm's way.

With less than two minutes to play in the half, Courtney McWhinnie (Methuen, Mass.) was taken down just outside the box leading to a free kick for the Pride. Jackie Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) lined up a shot that went just high, banging off the crossbar, and the game went to the half deadlocked at 0-0.

Regis continued to fire away in the second half, but could not find the back of the net. Newbury's Elizabeth Fox (Orono, Maine) would make 14 saves in the second half – and 18 in the game – for the visitors.

In the 72nd minute, current NECC Rookie of the Week Tais Salles (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) played a perfect pass to the opposite post that found Hannah Bouvette (Mattapoisett, Mass.) wide open, but her shot hit the post and it remained a scoreless game.

Finally in the 80th minute, the Pride broke through as Jasmin Vivar played a ball into the box to Olivia Hamill. Hamill made a dribble move to lose her defender and then blasted the ball into the top of the back of the net to give Regis the late 1-0 lead. The Regis defense was able to maintain possession over the final 10 minutes and hang on for their sixth league win of the year.

The Pride held a 45-2 advantage in shots for the game, and took 10 corner kicks to Newbury's one. Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.) made one save on the one shot on goal she faced to earn her ninth win of the year. Niki Pellicio (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) took both shots for the Nighthawks.

The Crimson and Gold wrap up the NECC regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. matchup with Southern Vermont College. Newbury will travel to Lesley University on Friday night for an 8:00 p.m. conference game.
