PRIDE SHUTOUT HAWKS, 1-0

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College Women's Soccer team kept up their stretch of strong play against conference opponents as they defeated Becker College 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Regis Stadium. With the victory, the Pride improve to 8-5-2, 5-2, NECC on the season and with the loss, the Hawks drop to 7-7-2, 3-2-2 NECC. Regis currently has a three game winning streak against Becker.

The victory was the Pride's sixth consecutive shutout win on the season and the women haven't allowed a goal during a win since the 2-1 home victory against Eastern Nazarene on September 16th.

During the first few minutes, the Pride controlled the ball and drove down to the Hawks zone, set up shop and were awarded with their first corner kick of the contest. Senior defender Jackie Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) took the chance for the Pride and lofted the ball high and into the box. The ball was corralled by senior midfielder Jasmine Vivar (Attleboro, Mass.) who fired a shot towards the net, but was denied by Hawk's goalie, senior Kaitlyn Rose (North Attleboro, Mass.). Five minutes later, senior defender Shannon Simonelli (Providence, R.I.) was diving on the right baseline towards the net. Simonelli stopped, and ripped a shot that had a chance of reaching the top left corner of the net, but her attempt hit the crossbar and the attack was cleared by the Hawks.

Regis kept up the pressure during the early moments which resulted in the only scoring tally of the contest. At the 17:17 mark, senior midfielder Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) was getting harassed by the Becker defense down in the attacking zone just outside the box. She wisely saw that teammate sophomore defender Hannah Bouvette (Mattapoisett, Mass.) was making a move to the front of the net, Joseph dished the ball off which found Bouvette's foot, and tapped the ball in right past the keeper to give the Pride the early 1-0 advantage, a lead they would never relinquish.

Becker nearly responded nine minutes later to knot of the score. Sophomore midfielder Lauren Zaleski (Avon, Mass.) just missed tying up the game when she had a clean shot from the top of the box turned away by Pride goaltender Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.). Gagnon then cleared the ball out of her zone thwarting the Hawks attacking chance.

The Hawks had a few more chances during the second half to tie the score, but their shots either went high, wide or were denied by Gagnon.

Rachel Gagnon earned her sixth consecutive shut-out victory facing five shots, while managing two saves. The victory propelled Gagnon to 8-5-2 on the season. Senior goalie Kaitlyn Rose (N. Attleboro, Mass.) suffered the loss and fell to 6-3-1 on the season after facing 24 shots, allowing the one goal and managing 13 saves.

The Pride continue their conference schedule with two remaining home games taking on Newbury College on Wednesday, October 29th at Regis Stadium with game-time set for 6:00 p.m. The Hawks head back home and host their remaining two contests, the first game is against conference foe Lesley University on Wednesday, October 29th with kick-off set for 4:00 p.m.
