STRONG SECOND HALF LEADS PRIDE PAST WILDCATS

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's soccer team scored four goals in the second half en route to a 4-0 victory over visiting Wheelock College in New England Collegiate Conference action on a cold and rainy Wednesday night in Weston, Mass. The Pride improve to 7-5-2 overall and 4-2 in the NECC, while the Wildcats fall to 3-11-1 and 1-5 in league games.

Both teams were held off the scoreboard in the opening half despite Regis holding a 16-1 advantage in shots, and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. The shots were there for the Pride, but Wheelock's Meghan Lewis (South Berwick, Maine) was up to the task, making 11 saves in the opening period. The Pride were also called for 11 offsides in the first half.

Regis finally broke through in the 63rd minute after a corner kick from Jackie Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) got loose in the box and landed at the feet of Tais Salles (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), who deposited the free ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

The Pride got some insurance 15 minutes later as Jessica Perez (Lynn, Mass.) took a shot inside the box that bounced off a Wheelock defender and out to Sofia Neri (Lincoln, Mass.). Neri found herself alone at the top of the 18 and fired the ball to the right side and in for the 2-0 advantage.

Olivia Hamill (Sudbury, Mass.) later added a goal on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute, while Hannah Bouvette (Mattapoisett, Mass.) scored on her own rebound to give the game its final score.

For the game, the Pride held a 36-2 advantage in shots and took all 13 corner kicks. Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.) made one save in the game to earn her seventh win of the season. Wheelock's Meghan Lewis was outstanding in net, tallying 17 saves on the night.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Saturday afternoon in a 12:00 p.m. matchup with Becker College in NECC play. Wheelock will travel to Lesley for an 8:00 p.m. game on Saturday night.
