REGIS SLIPS BY THOMAS, 1-0

WATERVILLE, Maine - Despite an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal, the Thomas College women's soccer team were unable to register a goal in a 1-0 defeat against the Regis College Pride this Wednesday night at Smith Field. With the win, the Pride move to 3-4-1, 0-1-0 NECC and the loss drops the Terriers to 4-7-0, 1-2 NAC.

Thomas had its chances in the first half as they rifled three shots on net during the first 16 minutes of play, but the shots either missed the net wide or were denied by Regis goalkeeper Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.). The Pride also had chances to go up front early during the ninth minute when Tais Salles (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) took a shot from the box but was denied by Terrier goalie Paige Leary (Palermo, Maine)

The action was a back and forth affair for most of the first half as the game remained scoreless until the 33rd minute, when Joanna Rosa (Roxbury, Mass.) was able to control the ball and get shot by Leary to give the Pride the only goal it would need.

Down a score starting the second half, the Terriers came out with a sense of urgency to get shots on the goal. Thomas put five shots on goal during the first 15 minutes of the second half, but either the shot attempts went wide or were denied by Gagnon.

The Terriers had one more opportunity to knot up the score during the 72 minute when Jenn Day (Gardiner, Maine) found herself with a scoring chance near the net. She put a shot on goal but was turned away by Gagnon. The Regis defense couldn't clear the ball away and about a minute later, Lindsy Hoopingarner (Richmond, Maine) dialed up a shot but Gagnon was there to snag the ball and end the Terrier scoring threat.

The Pride made the most of their opportunities and played to preserve their lead and pick up the road victory.

Paige Leary recorded three saves in the loss while Rachel Gagnon earned her first shutout victory of the season and made eight saves, six of the eight saves came during the second half of play. Jenn Day, Bronte Howorth (Austin, Texas) and Elizabeth Anderson (Stow, Mass.) all registered two shots on goal to lead the Terriers.

Regis continues conference play when they travel to Longmeadow, Mass. to square off against Bay Path University. Kick-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
