STRONG SECOND HALF LIFTS REGIS OVER THOMAS

WESTON, Mass. – A goal in the 50th minute of play was enough for Regis College to get past Thomas College, 1-0 in a non-conference women's soccer game on a sunny and warm Tuesday afternoon at Regis Stadium. The Pride's record improves to 3-5-2 (0-1-1 NECC) with the win, while the Terriers fall to 3-7-0 (1-2-0 NAC) on the season after dropping their third straight game.

The opening half was fairly quiet, as neither team was able to generate many high quality scoring chances. Thomas would have just two shots in the opening 45 minutes, with their best look coming off the foot of senior midfielder Jillian Lambert (Dayton, Maine).

Lambert launched a shot from about 40 yards out, but it was an easy save for sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.), who made four saves en route to the clean sheet. Gagnon is now the all-time program leader for shutouts in a career with 11.

The best chance of the half for Regis came with under seven minutes remaining, as junior Jasmin Vivar (Attleboro, Mass.) sent a through-ball to classmate Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.), who ran onto the ball and fired a shot from inside the box, but goalkeeper Kate Thibodeau (Woolwich, Maine) was able to handle it.

Coming out of the break, the Pride picked up their tempo and began to apply early pressure onto the Terriers. It paid off a little over four minutes in when forward Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) got on the end of an Abreu cross. Abreu used her speed to blow past two Thomas defenders down the left wing and sent the ball into the box. At roughly the penalty spot marker, Joseph met the ball and one-timed a low shot that skipped into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.

Though no more goals would be scored, the Pride were able to control possession for the majority of the half and ultimately outshot the Terriers by a 26-5 margin for the game. Defensively, Regis had strong performances by Nora Bosteels (Canton, Mass.), Jackie Rocheville (Salem, Mass.), and Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.), who were each solid for 90 minutes.

Sophomore Kajsa Kaufeldt (Stockholm, Sweden) led Thomas with a pair of shots, one of which was on frame. Thibodeau finished with 15 saves for the Terriers, who will return to conference play with a game on the road at Colby-Sawyer on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Regis will also return to league action when they host Mitchell at 1:00 p.m., also on Saturday.
