
SIROIS, PRIDE TAME WILDCATS IN 5-0 ROUT
Led by a six point performance (two goals, two assists) from senior Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass.), the Regis womenâs soccer team defeated Bay Path 5-0 at Ryan Field on Saturday afternoon.
LONGMEADOW, Mass. - Led by a six point performance (two goals, two assists) from senior Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass.), the Regis women's soccer team defeated Bay Path, 5-0 at Ryan Field on Saturday afternoon.
Sirois struck quickly, finding the back of the net first for the Pride at 10:09 on the clock. Junior defender Tess McLean (West Roxbury, Mass.) added to the lead when she chipped the ball past keeper Nicole Ogden (Springfield, Mass.) in the 27-th minute of play. Sirois was credited with the assist.
Sirois tallied her second goal of the game at 40:47 in the first half after driving the ball past Ogden for an unassisted goal. Less than one minute later, Sirois made her mark again after making a well-executed cross to freshman midfielder Devinne Aquadro (Sturbridge, Mass.), who finished for the 4-0 lead going into halftime.
The Pride defense managed to hold the Wildcats to just five shots all game and recorded the team's fifth shutout of the season. Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.) made two saves for the win in goal.
Bay Path managed a strong second half defense with reserve goalkeeper Marina Rhodes (Providence, R.I.) up until about two minutes remaining when sophomore defender Jackie Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) found the back of the net the final time for the Pride. Defender Kara Donovan (Woburn, Mass.) recorded the assist.
Bay Path's Ogden and Rhodes came away with a combined six saves facing 18 shots on the game.
Regis advances to 4-1-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in league play. The Pride will be back in action next Saturday, October 6th for a 1:00 p.m. contest with Mitchell.
