REGIS AND EASTERN NAZARENE BATTLE TO SCORELESS DEADLOCK

WESTON, Mass. – 110 minutes of soccer was not enough to decide a winner, as the Regis women's soccer team battled the visiting Eastern Nazarene Lions to a 0-0 draw on a wet and windy Tuesday night at Regis Stadium. With the tie, the Lions move to 1-5-1 on the season, while the Pride's record stands at 3-1-1.

In the opening thirty minutes of play, neither the Pride nor Eastern Nazarene was able to generate many quality offensive chances, as both squads traded for possession in back-and-forth action. Regis got perhaps its best chance with 14:55 remaining in the half when senior Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass.) played a perfect ball in the box to Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.), but the Lion's goalkeeper Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) was able to stop Abreu's shot attempt right on the goal line.

Coming out of the half, the Lions seemed to have picked up their intensity and began pressing the Regis defense. Roughly 21 minutes in, Eastern Nazarene looked like they were going to break through on a 2-on-1 situation in dangerous territory, but freshman goalkeeper Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.) was aggressive coming out of the net and jumped her body onto the ball before the Lions could register a shot.

On a corner kick with 18 minutes to play, the Lions once again looked like they might get on the board when Gabby Humphreys (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) flicked a ball that was headed for the back of the net, but once again Gagnon came out of nowhere to preserve the tie.

In the waning minutes of the game, Abreu had another excellent shot in the box, but Farley made a diving save to rob the sophomore of the game-winner. Farley finished the game with eight saves.

The shots were 18 to 12 in favor of the visitors, but even twenty minutes of extra time was not enough for either team to score a goal. Jasmin Vivar (Attleboro, Mass.) led the Pride in shot attempts with four. Gagnon finished with ten saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

The Pride return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22 as they open up conference play and host Elms College for an 11:30 a.m. kickoff.
