VIVAR LEADS PRIDE PAST BUCCANEERS 3-0

WESTON, Mass. –The Regis College women's soccer team defeated Massachusetts Maritime Academy by the score of 3-0 Thursday night at the Regis College Athletics Complex. The Pride improves to 3-1 on the season, while the visiting Buccaneers drop to 0-3 overall on the season.

The Pride got on the board early in the first period when Jasmin Vivar (Attleboro, Mass.) looped a high rising shot over the hands of Buccaneer goaltender Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I) to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Pride. The Pride continued to pelt the Buccaneers defense with five shots at the end of the first period. Courcy held strong for the Buccaneers notching four saves in the first period.

The Pride opened the second period up with a smooth shot that was directed from Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.) to an open Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) who found the back of the net to make the score 2-0 Regis. The Pride would score its third goal of the game late in the second period when Tess McLean (West Roxbury, Mass.) converted on a cross box pass from Vivar and slipped the ball into the lower left corner.

The Buccaneers offense rallied late in the second period when Kerri Conway (West Springfield, Mass.) cranked a shot top corner that was deflected by Pride goaltender Michaela Yebba (Wakefield, Mass.) to keep the score 3-0. This was the only save of the game for the Pride who continued to move the ball and finish out the clock for the win.

The crimson and gold return to action this Saturday when they travel to Wilmington Vermont to take on the Mountaineers from Southern Vermont College. The Buccaneers return to action Saturday when they take on the Rams from Framingham State University 4:00 p.m.
