PRIDE FALL TO BLAZERS IN NECC QUARTERFINALS

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Regis College women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to No.3-seeded Elms College in Tuesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship tournament quarterfinal match at Leary Field. The Pride concludes its season at 8-8 overall while the Blazers (9-5-3) advance to take on No. 2-seeded Mitchell College on Thursday, November, 3rd. Elms College senior forward Jennifer Killion (Cambridge, Mass.) netted a goal and tallied two assists to help lift the third-seed Blazers to the 3-0 victory.

Elms broke a scoreless tie in the 21st minute of action when Killion delivered a perfectly placed centering pass to the foot of sophomore midfielder Gianna Gorneault (Springfield, Mass.) who finished with a blast to the top left corner of the net to give the Blazers an early 1-0 lead.

Elms added to its lead 10 minutes later when Killion fired a shot that was blocked away by Regis goalkeeper Michaela Yebba (Wakefield, Mass.) but right to the foot of freshman midfield Sevonnah LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass.) who tucked the ball into the back of the net to set the score at 2-0.

The Blazers capped its three-goal first period at the 36:42 mark when Killion corralled a free ball at midfield and broke through the defense scoring on her own rebound of a shot that was initially stopped by Yebba.

Elms ended the frame leading 14-3 in shots.

In the second half, Regis had several attempts at cutting into its deficit including a tremendous run by Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass.) that just grazed the top of the crossbar at the 53:54 mark.

The Blazers also had opportunities to add to their lead in the final 45 minutes of play as freshman midfielder Delina deVillier (Springfield, Mass.) had a shot on a loose ball that was kicked away by Pride defender Kara Donovan (Woburn, Mass.) who was in place to back up Yebba on the play.

Elms outshot Regis 11-6 in the second half but the sides played a scoreless half as the Blazers pulled away to a 3-0 victory.

Killion and LaRochelle fired three shots on goal each, while the Pride's Jasmin Vivar (Attleboro, Mass.) drilled two shots on target.

Blazers' senior goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, Mass.) made five saves in the wining effort, while Yebba notched 10 stops in the loss for Regis.
