FRESHMEN TRIO LEAD PRIDE OVER MILLS

WESTON, Mass. – Three freshmen Regis College women's soccer players provided all the offense necessary as the Pride posted a 3-0 win over visiting Mills College on Wednesday night in non-conference women's soccer action. The Pride improves to 6-2 overall while Mills drops to 0-9. Classmates Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.), Jackie Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) and Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) each registered tallies for the Pride.

Regis got on the board first as Kara Donovan (Woburn, Mass.) lofted a ball into the box that bounced once, and allowed Kristen Abreu to head it over the outstretched arms of the Cyclones' Shauna Corbitt (Mukilteo, Wash.) to give the Pride an early 1-0 advantage. Abreu had several opportunities to stretch out the Pride's lead in the first half but a pair of her attempts rattled off the goal post and left Regis with a 1-0 lead headed into the break.

The Pride held a 19-1 advantage in shots in the opening frame while also holding a 9-0 edge in corner kicks. Mills' Shauna Corbitt was up to the task in the first period as she made seven saves in the first 45 minutes. Regis' Michaela Yebba (Wakefield, Mass.) turned away the one shot she faced in the frame.

Abreu nearly had her second goal of the day early in the second half but Lynette Alvarez (Linda, Calif.) booted the ball out of the net before it crossed the goal line to preserve the 1-0 deficit. Regis would get a lucky bounce later in the frame when Jackie Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) played a ball into the box from near midfield that bounced over the head of Corbitt and into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The Pride scored the final goal of the game when Adena Joseph (Stoughton, Mass.) added her eighth goal of the season on a corner kick from Jasmin Vivar (Attleboro, Mass.) in the 54th minute.

The Pride outshot the Cyclones at a 31-2 clip while earning 20 corner kicks to zero for Mills. Michaela Yebba improved to 6-2 this season while making one save. Shauna Corbitt made 14 saves in the setback while allowing three goals.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Saturday when they host Mitchell in an NECC match scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Mills continues its East Coast trip when the Cyclones take on Southern Vermont on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
